First Aid Supply - Safety First Aid Products and Supplies

First aid supplies are items contained in a first aid kit. First aid treats the Airways, Breathing and Circulation as the foundation of good treatment. Commercially available first aid kits available via normal retail outlets have traditionally been intended for treatment of minor injuries only. Typical first aid supplies include adhesive bandages, regular strength pain medication, and gauze and low grade disinfectant. Most modern commercial first aid include a suitable infection barrier for performing artificial respiration as part of cardiopulmonary resuscitation in the first aid kit. Examples of such infection barrier include:

* A pocket mask, or pocket face mask or CPR mask: it is a device used to safely deliver rescue breaths during a cardiac arrest or respiratory arrests.
* A face shield: it is a device used to protect wearer's entire face (or part of it) from impact hazard such as flying objects and road debris chemical splashes (in industry), or potentially infectious fluid (in medical).

Some first aid supplies are not always found in common kits. Such supplies include:

* An oropharyngeal airway (also known as an oral airway): This is a medical device called an airway adjunct used to maintain an open airway. It does this by preventing the tongue from (either partially or completely) covering the epiglottis which could prevent the patient from breathing. When a person becomes unconscious, the muscles in their jaw relax and may allow the tongue to obstruct the airway; in fact, the tongue is the most common cause of a blocked airway.
* A nasopharyngeal airway ( also known as an NPA or a nasal trumpet because of its flared end) is a type of airway adjunct, is a tube that is designed to be inserted into the nasal passageway to secure an open airway. When a patient becomes unconscious, the muscles in the jaw commonly relax and can allow the tongue to slide back and obstruct the airway. The purpose of the flared end is to prevent the device from becoming lost inside the patient's head.

Trauma injuries, such as bleeding, bone fractures or burns, are usually the main focus of most first aid kits, with items such as bandages and dressings being found in the vast majority of all kits. First aid supplies used in the treatment of Trauma injuries include:

Adhesive bandages (band-aids, sticking plater) - can include ones shaped for particular body parts, such as knuckles

* Moleskin— for blister treatment and prevention
o Sterile eye pads
o Sterile gauze pads
o Sterile non-adherent pads, containing a non-stick teflon layer
o Petrolatum gauze pads, used as an occlusive( air-tight) dressing for sucking chest wounds, as well as a non-stick dressing
o Bandages (for securing dressings, not necessarily sterile)
o Gauze roller bandages - absorbent, breathable, and often elastic
o Elastic bandages - used for sprains, and pressure bandages
o Adhesive, elastic roller bandages(commonly called 'Vet wrap') - very effective pressure bandages or durable, waterproof bandaging
o Triangular bandages - used as slings, tourniquets, to tie splints, and many other uses
