Safety Supply - Fall Protection Harnesses

Falls are one of the accidents that happen in the workplace, especially for people working in the construction industry. It is important that you have personal fall protection, and this is what fall protection harnesses are for. They are devices that use a series of nylon straps and buckles that are placed in strategic areas of the body, around the legs and thighs, shoulders, back and chest, with a large D shaped ring on the back. This ring is out of the way for the worker, but is connected to a safety line. During the course of your work, whether it is on a telephone pole fixing a downed power line, in a tree cutting off some dead branches, or working on scaffolding high in the air, this line is the only thing that stands between you and the ground below.

Like the old saying goes, the fall doesn't kill you, it's that sudden stop at the bottom. Fall protection harnesses prevent you from hitting the ground. However, just any fall protection won't do. Any harness you buy has to be certified safe by OSHA and other on the job protection agencies, to make sure they are safe to use. They also have to fit snugly on the body, but also comfortably, and have to capacity to hold your weight without failure. It isn't just the harness, but also the safety line, as well as the anchor it is connected to. All of these work together to keep your from getting injured or even killed.

The company you choose to buy your fall protection harnesses need to sell only products that are OSHA approved as well, and when you are on the job, you need to make sure that all the equipment that connects your harness to an anchor is as well.
